Still, all this is very promising for Cheetah 3d users who may need to illustrate and present some simple products demos without the need to do a full long animation rendering.

Most links are very general how to use Paint3d - which I have already explored and have not seen any way to add lighting to models that are maintained in PowerPoint (Paint 3D has an effects tab that allows you to change lighting but this is only for how the model appears in Remix3d). Nor have I found much about this particular issue on the net. No forum exists in which to ask for help.
Microsoft claims Remix3d is a community site, but really their idea of community seems to consist only of articles they themselves post. Would be grateful for anyone who can help me figure out how to get that lighting. This specific model of a ladybug shows what I am talking about re lighting - it has three interactive lights that shine on the top of the object and reflect off it: I thought maybe at first I had to include lights in my FBX files (Blender exports FBX lights but Cheetah doesn’t seem to). But when I import my own models I can’t get that kind of interactive lighting. If you import those models to PowerPoint the lighting is maintained.
I am testing this with my own models but so far I have not figured out how to get any interactive lighting and reflections, as seen on the models in Remix3d. You will still see the embedded 3D object but the animation will not work (instead it does a simply fade between states). Unfortunately this functionality is not available on Mac. You can easily import 3D models form Microsoft’s new free 3d community - Remix3d - or import your own.Īnd you can animate camera or object position very easily simply by using the Morph transition between two slides (you set a start view on the first slide and then reposition your 3d object on the second slide and during the morph transition PowerPoint will smoothly animate between the two states).

As a result of the new Windows 10 Fall Creators Edition and the update of Paint 3D, the following formats can be inserted into PowerPoint: FBX, STL, OBJ (and another formats such as GTL and also another 3d printing format which I can’t remember). Very exciting if you are forced to work with PowerPoint on Windows a lot. PowerPoint can now import 3D objects (on Windows)
